We are seeing a rise in the amount of internet investments and most are commonly known to be giving investors dividends periodically if you purchase their pre-IPO shares. We suggest that it is highly important for you to do due diligence checks before making your investment decision.
Today, we want to share with you a useful tool that you can use for one of your due diligence check. This quick check that we are going to show you, will allow you to quickly check when a website has been registered and for how long.
Here’s the steps you can follow to do this simple check:
Step 1 – Go to www.whois.is
Step 2 – Type out the website name you wish you check on. In this example, we typed www.efincorp.com in the box.
The name of the website that you searched will appear on the top left corner. Now on this page, you’ll be able to check when the website was registered and when the website expires. The picture below are other additional information that will be shown on the same page as well. You’ll be able to see where the company registered their website from. So why is this check useful? If you think about it logically, if a company wants to be around for a long time period of time, do you think they will register their domain for a long or short period of time? Registering for a longer period is also more costly and fly-by-night companies may not want to spend that kind of money.
Here’s an example of a different company’s website below. Observe at the date of expiry for this particular company.
Having this information may not be the biggest influence in your decision making for investing but it’s certainly a very useful quick check that you can do to give you an idea of an impression of a company. Do not make a decision to invest on this check alone but with other criteria as well. You can also refer to our other article on “How to Choose a Golden Goose”.
